I love this quote because it breaks success down into three key components: ability, motivation, and attitude. You need to have all three parts in order to be successful.
- Ability– the skill at which you can perform tasks. The more you practice, the better you get. Although talent is a part of ability, I’m a firm believer that the more effort you put into something, the more results you can expect to see.
- Motivation– from Merriam-Webster, this can be defined as “a motivating force, stimulus, or influence.” Think of this as the reason why you’re acting towards your goal. Are you looking to get a promotion at work? Are you looking to finish your book? Remind yourself of why you’re embarking on this journey and what you’re working towards.
- Attitude– how you perceive the world around you and how you choose to react. A lot of the events that happen in life are uncontrollables [example: someone is a jerk to you at work, or you get rear-ended during your morning commute]. However, a controllable is your attitude: how are you going to react to the event?
